Need drive band for Cascade drum carder

Help! the band broke from my Cascade Mills drum carder. They don't make them anymore, so I don't know what to do. I had my swimming pool man make me a band, but it was too rubbery and broke at the seam after a few turns of the crank. I need a stiffer band, that has a good tight seam. Does anyone know what I should do about this?

Here is what the drum carder looks like where you put the band on. It goes in a figure eigt around the two wheels. I can provide dimensions of the band.

Bulky weight--this knits up thick and quick, skeins are approximately 100 yds. Sportsweight-- a lighter gauge, skeins are approximately 150 yds.
