This is a well-made flax spinning wheel with an onion bulb distaff. I have used it to make fine yarns--mohair, angora, silk, merino, to name a few. It is a double drive, and is made at least in part of a hardwood. It is a very good looking wheel. Someone tells me that they think it is from a defunct Scottish company called "Haldane" and that this is the "Hebridean" model. I don't know if this is true or not, but it is a good looking wheel.
